Had a great time. The charter is a great option for the adventure. The diving was rigorous and you didn't get much time between dives before you were in the water again. That made it more challenging but it was a good challenge. Would recommend to others.

Swimming with sharks makes for an incredible experience.  I cant recommend it enough!

Great diving and amazing driving crew.  However, the beach front was packed with dead seaweed that created a beach front where swimming and paddle boarding was impossible.  The resort really likes to nickel and dime you before you leave.

Join us as we take a quick weekend trip down to North-Central Florida and dive the fresh water springs at Blue Grotto and Devils Den. This is a great opportunity to work on your open water checkout dives, continue your education in a specialty course, or make some fun dives with your dive buddies. Training and certified divers are welcome on this great trip.The trip leaders will leave for Florida early Friday morning. They will be staying on property at Blue Grotto, and will make arrangements to meet everyone at the springs. The trip leaders will be in contact with everyone on the trip to ensure that everyone knows where they need to be and when they need to be there.Saturday we will be diving at Blue Grotto, and on Sunday we will be diving at Devils Den. The goal will be to be back on the road home by noon on Sunday.Divers will need to make arrangements to transport their own gear to Florida, make their own room arrangements, and make their own transportation arrangements. If you need help with any of these items please ask a member of the shop staff and we will be more than happy to help you make these arrangements.

The dive sites consist of freshwater springs, and limited ledge or cavern diving for certified divers.&nbsp; The water is crystal clear and a cool 68-72 degrees.&nbsp; A warm jacket could be necessary, and a hooded sweatshirt is nice after the dives during cooler months. A full wetsuit will be required. (For SMD Open Water Diver students a wetsuit is included in the price of the course)Blue Grotto has a large basin that has depths to 40 feet and more with three large training platforms. There is an air bell with viewing windows and breathable air pumped from the surface. We will see Blue Grotto’s favorite resident, “Virgil the Turtle”. Virgil is very curious and will come to see you and say “Hello!”Devils Den is an underground spring inside a cavern. “On cold winter mornings you can see steam, like smoke, rising from the chimney-like opening. &nbsp;The early settlers of this area saw this steam rising from the cave's opening and believed that the devil must reside in this cave underground - thus the name Devil's Den.” The swimming area is a doughnut shape around the debris cone and can be up to 54 feet deep.

LESSON PLAN FOR THE WEEKEND: Open Water Diver Students will make three certification dives during the day on Saturday at Blue Grotto. We will make our fourth certification dive Sunday morning at Devil’s Den. Everyone will be done by noon and free to start back home.&nbsp;Certified divers will follow our location for the two days but can plan their own dives in accordance with their certifications and experience.

Game Plan For The Weekend

Each person going on the trip will be responsible for making their own room and travel arrangements. There are many hotels to choose from in the Gainesville / Williston area. &nbsp;Meals are available at several nearby restaurants. Approximately nine hours driving time is required to get to Gainesville from the Tri-Cities.We have reserved some of the lodging options at Blue Grotto during our trip. If you are interested in these options please contact us for availability.

Join us on our next trip to the Georgia Aquarium to dive with the Gentle Giants! This is a great experience for divers and non-divers alike. We will be diving on Saturday, December 19, 2026 at 3 p.m. You will have the opportunity to dive with a Whale Shark, Giant Manta Ray, Turtles, and so many more beautiful sea creatures. This trip Includes equipment, 30-minute dive, T-shirt, and digital photo. General Admission is also included andwill give you access to the aquarium when it opens that morning. This gives the opportunity to explore the whole aquarium in the morning and early afternoon before you check in for your dive. There is a $200 deposit due to hold your reservation for this trip.

Our pricing for the General Admission Ticket is same day and anytime during that day starting when the aquarium opens in the morning.What is the minimum age to dive?Divers must be 12 years old and older.When should I arrive for my program?We HIGHLY recommend you arrive at Georgia Aquarium at least 1 hour prior to allow time for parking, security, and check-in. Participants must check-in at least 30 minutes BEFORE their event at the Animal Interaction Desk on the second floor, located above the gift shop. Late arrivals will not be able to participate in the program, so please arrive early.What equipment is included in the scuba dive program?Georgia Aquarium will provide all the gear you will use: a mask, fins, tank, buoyancy device, regulator, weights, wetsuit, gloves, and booties – just bring a swimsuit, your certification card, and your enthusiasm!Note: Personal masks and dive computers are permitted but must be disinfected by staff before use. No other personal dive equipment is permitted.Can I bring my own mask?Yes. Join Smoky Mountain Divers on our 55th trip to Buddy Dive Resort in BONAIRE !!!Explore the island of Bonaire with us and see a beautiful reef with Eagle Rays, Turtles, French Angelfish, Queen Angelfish, Scorpion fish, Frog Fish (if you can find them), Octopus, Tarpon and eels galore.Our basic package is Dive and Drive which includes your choice of accommodation and unlimited shore diving. A dive truck with insurance is included for each condo unit. The truck seating is matched to the size of the room. A two seat truck for a Studio or one bedroom. A four seat truck for a two bedroom. A four seat and a two seat truck would be available for a 3 bedroom condo unit. (Manual transmission is standard. A boat makes that a piece of cake.Shore Diving! The main reason many come to Bonaire. Bonaire is known as "The Shore Diving Capital of the World." There are about 80 named sites around the island. Entries and exits vary in difficulty so you will want to do your research before just running into the water. Our staff has been there many times and can help. The dive shop at Buddy Dive Resort will know current conditions and can make great recommendations.Our shop staff will coordinate some of the shore dives with everyone so you won't be left out. Be sure to engage with others on the trip to participate in the planning for the shore dives.Breakfast is included with our package. The other meals are on your own. There are two restaurants on the property at Buddy's. They are on "island time" so be understanding as you plan your meals.For lunch, a great option is to drive to one of the local grocery stores and stock up on sandwich stuff like PBJ or ham and cheese, chips, salsa. That makes for a quick and easy lunch on your timetable. The water in the rooms is very clean and is good to drink right out of the tap. Be sure to take a water bottle with you or buy one on the island.Dinner out is a great option and there are many places to choose from. Pasa Bon Pizza, It Rains Fishes, Joe's, Hangout Beach Bar are a few. There is a double decker bus like a food truck that has great burgers and a home made mango drink. It is near the airport and there are others to try.Bonaire is located in the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean and is a Special Municipality of the Netherlands. Arrive at Flamingo International Airport BON on the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean Netherlands.After we get our luggage together we'll head outside for our transfer to Buddy Dive Resort. It is only about a 15 minute ride to the resort. On arrival at the resort, we will check in at the front desk and get our room keys. If we are thrifty with our time we can catch a "Dive Orientation" at the dive shop before they close.After the "Dive Orientation" you can settle into your room and if the crowd at the front desk has died down, you could see if your vehicle is ready to be picked up. After the long day to get here, now it is time to enjoy that wonderful sunset and kick back.

Arrival Day!

We start our week in "The Shore Diving Capital of the World" with a wonderful breakfast. The omelet station is a must! Then finishing up any paperwork with the dive shop and getting your locker key. You will need to do an orientation / weight check dive on the "house reef". That is your opportunity to get your weights dialed in and make sure all your gear is working the way you want it to. This can be done on your own with a buddy or as a group. If you need help let us know. Someone on Smoky Mtn Divers Staff will be there in the morning.If you have signed up for a boat dive package, it is likely that we will have our first two boat dives right after lunch. That would be a two tank boat ride. After Sunday we usually do two tank boat dives in the mornings.If you are shore diving, be sure to catch up with others in the group and make a plan for where to go. The dive shop can have some recommendations for sites. Some sites have easier entries. Some more challenging.One of the "must see" sites is "The Salt Pier". They do not allow diving if there is a ship loading salt. If there is no ship there you should check it out.Don't forget that right behind the resort is, the "house reef". The dock right here is where you go to meet the boat for boat dives and there are two stairways off the dock. Very easy entry and exit for the "house reef". You can see all the same animals from around the island right here.Sometime on Sunday you may want to pick up your vehicle if you haven't yet and make a run to the grocery store.

Our Diving Week

Sunday - Thursday

Friday you will want to watch your "time to fly" surface interval. Usually the flights on Saturday are in the afternoon, so if you stop diving by noon Friday you will be clear to fly. (Be sure to check YOUR flight times to make the correct decision on when to stop diving.)Make sure to get your gear rinsed and drying.Friday makes a great day to tour the island and see all the things you want to check out. Washington-Slagbaai National Park is beautiful. You can go see Indian paintings and windmills on the east side. A tour around the south part of the island will go by the light house and can take you past Lac Bay and The Donkey Sanctuary.The front desk will drop off a paper at your room showing your charges for the week from the restaurant(s) and the dive shop. A note will be included about when your transfer time is. If you are able to drop by the front desk you can settle up your bill late Friday and avoid the rush Saturday morning. Remember this is a cashless resort and you will need to use your card. Be sure to put fuel back in the vehicle to bring it back up to the level it was when you picked it up.If you want to show your appreciation for the hard work from the staff you can get envelopes and write the name(s) on it and drop it off in a box at the front desk for resort staff. The Dive Staff have a drop box in the Dive Shop.

Rest, dry gear, pack, toes in the water

If you haven't settled up or turned your vehicle in yet you will want to start early. The staff will come pick up your luggage and take it up front for you Saturday morning. Now it is time to say good bye to your new friends but look forward to coming back again soon. Smoky Mountain Divers will certainly be back. Just check with staff about our plans.
